Ten 'well established' pharmacies come on the market as company exits GB

Galen Pharmacy in Neston is one of 10 pharmacies up for sale

A community pharmacy business operating in North West England and North Wales is selling its 10-strong portfolio in Britain to “concentrate fully” on its Northern Ireland business.

Broker Christie & Co said yesterday that it was bringing all 10 pharmacies operated by North Meols Pharmacy in England and Wales to market, commenting that collectively they “boast strong historical performances, with the average dispensing over 10,000 items per month and over 80 per cent of the estate achieving volumes significantly ahead of the industry average in England”.

“The pharmacies all occupy well-established community settings, including two integrated GP sites, and are located in clusters across Southport, Wirral and North Wales,” it added.

The broker said it expects most will be disposed of via asset sales, and is inviting interest from groups, subgroups and individuals.

The company began with the acquisition of one pharmacy in 2009, expanding to 10 over the last 13 years through a series of acquisitions. Current owner Liam Bradley is now “looking to sell the businesses to concentrate fully on its community pharmacy business in Northern Ireland,” said Christie & Co.

Christie & Co’s Jon Booth commented: “Naturally, we are delighted to have been instructed to offer the 10 North Meols Pharmacy sites for sale.

“In our opinion, this is one of the best small pharmacy estates in the North West, with the majority of them having volumes well in excess of the UK average dispensing level. The group represents fantastic opportunities for a range of buyers both large and small.”
